It has been almost two years since the Butterfly Pea, a boutique hotel was launched, then over the last couple of months we introduced the Butterfly Pea Villa.
A place where you can enjoy private cooking classes while relaxing poolside, a cocktail in hand and just enjoy the serenity. You can prepare a wonderful dish and interact with the executive chef who will be your teacher. If you would rather enjoy a sunset meal then that too can be arranged at the villa, either by poolside or on the rooftop watching the sunset. Whatever you would like to do we can make it happen. The joys of being a small boutique hotel is that we can create the experience and our guest experience creator, Sothea would love to assist you.
It is now time for us to grow the Butterfly Pea family and we are pleased to announce the Butterfly Pea Homestay coming next year to Kampong Kleang. One of the largest communities on the Tonlé Sap, Kompong Khleang (កំពង់ឃ្លាំង) is more of a town than the other villages, and comes complete with several ornate pagodas. Most of the houses here are built on towering stilts to allow for a dramatic change in water level.
When Sambath Chorm and John Ganshaw decided to embark on this new venture it was and is important that the homestay be as authentic as possible and also be sustainable, both socially and environmentally. Kompong Khleang is the village where Sambath grew up and where his family still resides. Our goal is to make the homestay part of the community and to give back to the community.
The most important aspect of this new adventure is having Sambath Chorm as a partner and to see his vision come to life. We have just started our planning stages but we are setting late summer 2020 as the time in which we will open. We are looking forward to incorporating the homestay as part of your stay at the Butterfly Pea a memorable experience. There will be much more to come in the upcoming months and we hope you will follow our progress and be part of the experience.
Once the homestay is open, we will have incorporated the hotel, villa, and homestay into a social enterprise to assist the Butterfly Pea Foundation in providing additional training for teachers and supporting the communities in which they live.
